Based in Gardena California, Jira >< is a young producer who finds himself constantly creating, pulling inspiration from LA greats such as Ras G, Madlib, and Knxwledge. His name is shortened from the Yoruba phrase Ji agbara which means ‘waking aptitude’ in homage of his creation style which is to wake up and make some fresh beats. He aspires to make obvious the connection between the music of his ancestors and the sounds you can hear commonly on the street. Jira draws from a collage of Jazz, Traditional Musics, Video Games, R&B, anime, and more. Since starting at the age of 16, he has collaborated with many artists such as Sharada Shashidhar, Shango, Kara, Tru, Black Nile, Konscious, Mickey, Carlos Niño, Whyzman, Mia Doi Todd, and AK Toney. You can check out his music through these artists and over 40 projects on his bandcamp page where he releases music often. He is also known as Jasik when rapping, and you can find more of his production on his jazz albums under the name Jamael Dean.
